The 1850 Project began as a promise from an ageing musician to his son that, on his 50th and his son's 18th birthday (a day apart from each other in 2009) he would come out of "retirement" and they would play a one-off gig together. AS they began to rehearse together, however, they found themselves reviving some old songs, writing new ones and generally taking the whole project beyond that initial idea. So now, although there is still only the one gig planned, a CD is being recorded and the intention is to carry on recording long after the "1850" has passed.
Although the recording sessions are primarily father (Neil) and son (Jonathan) affairs, for the live gig they have drafted in nephew/cousin Chris Davies (The Foundry) on drums and long-time friend Tony Longworth (Flesh Resonance, solo artist and film music composer) on bass.
